The Senior Staff Symposium brought together senior staff from AGs offices across the country for substantive legal policy discussions with their counterparts in Congress and the Administration, as well as experts from academia and private practice.

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron joined the Washington Policy Webcast for a discussion on how state attorneys general have fought to protect religious liberty during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt was joined by Texas Senator Ted Cruz on the Washington Policy Webcast for a conversation on how state and federal governments can hold China accountable for its role in the COVID-19 pandemic. The conversation focused on Missouri’s civil liability lawsuit against China and legislative efforts in Congress to push back against China.

As states across the country work tirelessly to contain the spread of COVID-19, new questions with regards to the conduct of public elections have been raised.

In Arizona, state laws protecting elections from fraudulent activity have been usurped in the name of crisis. In Ohio, the state’s right to move elections has been challenged.

State attorneys general are on the frontlines to ensure that elections can take place without interference, fraud, and public health concerns. South Dakota Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg moderated a discussion between Alabama Chief Counsel Katherine Robertson and Jennifer Braceras of the Independent Women’s Foundation about the current effort to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, the legal battle over this process, and the broader implications of the Amendment.

Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes and CFPB Director Kathleen Kraninger had a conversation about the current state of financial services regulation, including the work the Bureau and State AGs have accomplished with the American Consumer Financial Innovation Network.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson moderated a panel discussion about the recent impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump, the constitutional questions around the articles and their lasting implications to our system of government. Panelists included: Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry, Special Advisor to the President Pam Bondi, Senator Mike Lee, and Representative Lee Zeldin. The panel had an unexpected guest: President Donald Trump joined by phone to thank the attorneys general for their efforts to defend the rule of law.

Attorney General Jeff Landry (LA), Senator Ted Cruz (TX), and Governor Pete Ricketts (NE) spoke about the importance of American energy independence and the energy and the related supportive environmental actions taken by Republican AGs, Governors, and the U.S. Senate.

Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf participated in a discussion on state and federal partnerships to combat human trafficking with Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, and Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes.

The first Healthcare Symposium brought together Republican attorneys general from across the country to have frank discussions about the healthcare issues facing the nation. The attorneys general and featured subject matter experts covered topics, including protecting patients’ healthcare data, combatting the opioid crisis, the shortcomings of the Affordable Care Act, protecting preexisting conditions, and increasing choice and access to healthcare.
